ABOUT
Q&A with Nadia Hatta
Q: You look unique, Where are you from?
A: Who cares. I’m human, just like you. Just kidding. I’m mixed Taiwanese, some Indian, Hainan & Arabic. I was born in Taipei, and raised in Taiwan & Canada.
Q: When did you realize you wanted to become an actress?
A: When I was 2 years old. I knew I wanted to be an artist. So, my whole life. I used to make my own films growing up, being the writer, director & lead actress. The moment I finally realized that this dream could be a reality was when I performed on an outdoor stage in Florence, Italy in a play speaking in both Italian & English. I played the Whole, Devil & Sentry. The feeling was so right, I decided to audition at Tisch School of Arts at New York University, one of the best acting programs in America and see what my chances were. If I got in, this would be my life. If I didn’t, I would just go into business.
Q: So, What happened?
A: Within a week of my audition, I got accepted into Tisch, booked a film role and a role in the play, “Mango Street.” That was when I realized that the Universe was telling me, “Go got it.” So I did my professional training at the Experimental Theatre Wing at NYU, got my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre/Acting, and did plays, indie films, voice overs, and all of the in between for the entire four years I lived in New York. That has been my life until today.
Q: Tell me about your TV experience.
A: When I moved back to Taiwan, I got cast in some English speaking TV shows on CTS and then acted in some Live ABC sitcoms. For two years, I worked on making a switch from Theatre Acting to TV acting, honing my craft, working on comedy, commercial acting & hosting, and voice over acting. In 2005, I landed a starring role on E4kids on TV and in 2009, I was handpicked like a goldfish to be the co-host for Fun Taiwan on Discovery Channel. I really love TV acting and being on location.
Q: Did you ever learn to work in Mandarin?
A: Yes, on E4kids. They already had this show on air before, but with a male host, Andy Chen. They were looking for a female host who was bilingual. And I got picked for the part. At first, I Thought I only had to perform in English until I saw the script. We would shoot 6-8 episodes in one day and all of it was in Chinese. Can you imagine? Plus, I had to speak in perfect”Broadcasting” Mandarin. I would memorize the words and tones day in and day out until I finally learned how to host in Mandarin after much suffering!! But I’m glad, it’s opened me up to a world of opportunities. Now, I can prove I really am Taiwanese by heart.
Q: What do you think is your edge?
A: Ground shaking, controversial roles. Comedy oh, and sex appeal, major sex appeal.
Q: What do you like to do for fun?
A: Fun? What does that mean? I am a serious actress. I do monologues all day long in hopes that Ang Lee will find me. Just kidding. I love nature, hiking, swimming in the ocean, walking through forests, and of course, I practice my other love. Yoga, everywhere and anywhere. I love watching movies, laughing with friends, eating, reading, writing and going for long walks and traveling! Actually, my career is already really fun. I enjoy every project I do and enjoy meeting new creative people!
Q: You are a lot of fun. How can someone get to know you better?
